At only 25, Toronto-based artist Amy Shackleton paints these lusciously drippy paintings without use of a brush or fingers, instead she relies on good old gravity (and occasionally string as a guide) to move the paint slowly across the canvas in delicately controlled pours. Shackleton received her BFA Honours Degree from York University. She paints full time from her new studio space in Toronto.
She has exhibited paintings in New York, London, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary. Shackleton’s work was recently selected for purchase by the Colart Collection in Montreal. She was a finalist in the 2010 Signature Art Awards at Degree Art Gallery in London and nominated for the 2010 and 2011 Palm Art Awards in Germany. I find this so unbelievably amazing and beautiful. See more of her work here, and you’ll have a chance to see it in person at Art Toronto 2011 in October.
